Purchased by the current owner in 2018. A solid, rust-free California car. By comparing the body number and chassis number, it appears this Packard was rebodied at sometime in the distant past. The body is a 1932 Model 905 Twelve Club Sedan that was mounted on a 1933 1002 Standard Eight 136" wheelbase chassis. This was a somewhat common practice back in the day to get added life from a body and chassis. It is titled as a 1933 Packard. The current owner is a longtime Packard collector and restorer. The goal with this Packard was for it to be a terrific tour car.
Work completed under current ownership includes:
• Completely stripped body (fenders and running boards removed.) Did necessary body work and refinished with PPG black semi-gloss DP90 epoxy paint. This finish gives the soft, clean, vintage look of an original car. Red hand-painted pinstriping was applied to the beltline.
• Top wood was replaced, new insert vinyl top installed along with replacing most side and rear glass and carpet. Work done by Henningson Machine Works in Salinas, CA at a cost of $20,000.
• Re-chromed grille shell ($500.)
• Speedometer rebuilt by Abbott Instruments ($800). Oil pressure and amp gauge work. Clock and gas gauge do not.
• Powder coated wire wheels and installed four new Lester 700x17 tires ($2,000.)
• New running board rubber and trim (owner installed.)
• Correct 320 cubic inch 1933 Standard Eight engine (#370058) checked and refreshed as needed. Excellent compression and oil pressure.
• Carburetor rebuilt ($600.)
• Exhaust manifold refurbished ($800.)
A total of over $30,000 in work has been done to bring this Packard to its current condition.
The body fit and finish are excellent. Great wood framing. Doors hang straight with no sag and close like the proverbial bank vault.
Interior upholstery was replaced in the past, before current ownership. Correct wool mohair in mocha color. Clean with no rips or tears. Good padding. Firm and comfortable. The interior genuine burled wood trim is beautiful. Correct sloped-back accessory trunk was purchased and installed for extra storage on the road. Dual sidemounted spare wheels with metal tread covers topped by Packard-branded rear view mirrors. Excellent, correct hubcaps all-around. All lights work. Clean, rust-free undercarriage.
Mechanically excellent. Starts easily, runs smoothly with plenty of power, no smoke or issues. 3-speed transmission shift crisply. 4-wheel mechanical brakes are properly adjusted and stop quick and straight. Comfortable on the road at 55 mph. Steers straight and true.
This Packard is ready to be enjoyed now. Eligible for Classic Car Club of America status as a Full Classic™. Also eligible for participation at events by the Packard Club (PAC) and Packards International, as well as the AACA and other clubs.
