1937 Ford V8 Model 78 Convertible Sedan
$32,500
VIDEO TOUR COMING SOON.
The Ford V8 was introduced in 1932 and set the car world on fire. It was the first economically-priced V8. In 1937, Ford produced over 1 million cars worldwide, in 18 different body styles. One of the rarest was this Model 78 Deluxe Convertible Sedan - of which only 4,378 were made - less than 1/2 of 1 percent of all of the Fords made that year. It was the highest priced model offered, with a new price of $860. Few were sold and even fewer survive today.
This car was treated to a restoration about 15 years ago. It was stripped and repainted in correct "Spring" color of Turquoise Blue color - which looks wonderful on this open body style. Paint shows well today, with a deep shine and only a few tiny, inconspicuous touch-ups from normal use. Chrome bumpers and handles are beautiful with a bright finish. Running board rubber is very nice with no cracking. "Spider" wheels and hubcaps are excellent. Wide whitewall tires are older and fine for local driving. Convertible top shows some age from normal use over the years. Original safety glass is very good. Clear, not yellowed, with only a few small areas of age showing. Windows in the doors roll up and down easily. Undercarriage is clean and rust-free.
Brown leather interior is very nice. Door panels excellent. Seats are tight and well-cushioned. One small pull at one seam on the driver's seat. Could be re-stitched. Seat belts installed front and rear. Front tan rubber floor mat is correct and in very good condition. Rear brown wool carpeting is excellent. The woodgrained metal dashboard and trim all presents beautifully, with only two very small chips noted on the ash tray door. All gauge faces are nice. Radio and clock were installed but not hooked up. Manifold cabin heater is in the trunk, ready to be installed.
The 85 horsepower V8 starts easily and runs smoothly. Recent valve adjustment. Good power. New fuel pump. 3-speed manual transmissio. shifts easily. Mechanical brakes stop well. Lights all work including added turn signals. A nice package.
After completion of the restoration, this car was shown at the Early Ford V8 Club National Meet in Redmond, Oregon in 2012 (it was driven from Portland to Redmond, a 300 mile round-trip.) At the meet this car was judged and received a Second Place award in the 1937 Class, testament to the quality of the restoration.
Today, this is a very nice, seasoned restoration that can be enjoyed now or easily brought up again to national show condition.
You will likely not see another one wherever you go.
