Rare Super-8 160 Club Coupe. 1 of just 88 made. Sold new in San Antonio, Texas by Gene Meador Packard on April 28, 1940 to H.L. Kokernot, a prominent cattle rancher. Used until his passing in 1949, and then by his son until 1957, when it was stored on the family ranch. Rediscovered in 1988 by Jim Hollingsworth, the acknowledged expert on 1940 Packards (he literally "wrote the book," Packard 1940: A Pivotal Year. Hollingsworth set out on a multi-year, concours-level restoration to return this car to showroom condition. When completed, this car was judged multiple times in national showings of the Classic Car Club of America. It received its Premiere Award badge (ranking First Place in 3 separate shows.)
Purchased by the current owner in Oregon in 2021, with just 1,593 miles on the restoration.
During his ownership, the car has continued to be impeccably maintained, with all service fully documented, including:
• New, correct Stromberg AAV-26 carburetor.
• Replaced wheel bearings and axle seals.
• New tie rod ends and alignment .
• 6 volt/12 volt solenoid providing 12 volts to the starter only, for easier starting.
• Installed Dynamat insulation on the entire interior floor.
• Replaced the clutch.
• Installed Hone-O-Drive overdrive transmission giving a 33% reduction in engine revs for highway touring at 65 mph+
• Plus many other improvements.
Current mileage since restoration: 6,100.
This car has proven itself on multiple regional CCCA long-distance tours. Truly the best of both worlds: Show or go!
The paint, chrome and interior are exceptional. This car will still judge in the high 90+ point range in judging.
