The newly-restyled Silver Anniversary Chrysler for 1949 brought elegance into the post-WWII years. The New Yorker was the top-of-the-line offering and this particular car has served as a time capsule of the era. This New Yorker had one-owner in Washington state for over 50 years and while always maintained, has never been restored. What you see is what left the Chrysler factory in 1949. Finishsed in original "Mist Blue" color, the now 75-year-old paint is in exceptional condition. Obviously, this car was garaged throughout its life. The body is straight and with excellent panel fit. Doors close easily and securely. Rubber seals appear very good. Chrome and trim (and there is lots of it!) are excellent. The older bias-ply whitewall tire appear very good but may want to be upgraded before extended driving. Original hubcaps are bright and clean. All lights work. Inside the originality continues. The blue and gray wool interior is in beautiful condition. Seats are firm and show only normal use. No rips or tears. Original carpeting shows age but is preserved under floor mats. The padded dash top (a new feature for 1949) is very good. The dashboard face is clean and bright. The semi-circular instrument cluster is lovely. Gauges read accurately. Factory radio, heater and defroster. Headliner and rear seat are also excellent. The trunk is clean with original matting, spare wheel and jack. The floor is solid and rust-free, as is the undercarriage. Under the hood, the original "Spitfire" 323 cubic inch straight 8 engine produces 135 horsepower. It starts easily, runs smoothly with no smoke or unusual noises. This engine design was Chrysler's top power plant from the 1930's through the early 1950's and was fully refined by 1949. Mated to the semi-automatic 4-speed Fluid Drive transmission, this Chrysler is smooth shifting with a "boulevard ride." It is a pleasure to drive and will certainly hold its own on the road today in modern traffic. The engine bay is also completely original, as shown in the photos, right down to the factory stamps on the firewall showing this car pased all inspections on thte assembly line. If you are looking for an original top-of-the-line Chrysler for enjoyable touring or showing in Preservation class events, this is a good one! It will certainly draw attention wherever it goes.
