In 1956, a 25-year-old man, Tony, purchased this 190SL from the Mercedes-Benz dealership on Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco. (They initially tried to sell him a 300SL, but he wanted to pay cash, and he also wanted a roadster, so bought this 190 instead.)Tony kept this car for the next 68 YEARS, until his passing in 2024. Today, the odometer shows just 66,100 miles from new.
While Tony later married and had children, the car was pampered and treated as a member of the family. It was always maintained and serviced as needed. No accidents or damage. Always garaged.
About 30 years ago, the car was re-painted in correct white color. The paint shows nicely today with only a slight bit of yellowing noticed on the nose and right front fender likely from exposure to light in the garage. No big deal, but want to mention it. The body is straight with excellent panel fit. All chrome is original, bright and shows nicely.
The interior is completely original. Tan leather seats show well with only normal use noted. The leather is soft, the stitching is excellent with no pulls or tears. Rubber floor mat shows no appreciable wear. Steering wheel is excellent. Interior chrome and trim is bright and shows beautifully. All gauges work and register accurately. Period aftermarket Motorola radio under the dash. Not working at present. Working heater/defroster. All lights work. Convertible top was replaced in 2019 and appears correct and as-new. Original leather top-boot in the trunk, which also contains the original spare wheel/tire, jack and original tool roll, plus an assortment of parts. Also includes original manuals and pouch.
PLEASE SEE PHOTOS WHICH WERE JUST TAKEN FOR THIS LISTING AND SHOW CURRENT CONDITION.
Mechanically excellent. 1.4 liter SOHC inline 4 engine starts easily, runs smoothly with no smoke or issues. Excellent power and acceleration. 104 HP. Rated at top speed of 107 mph. 4 speed manual transmission shifts crisply and is a pleasure to drive. Brakes work well. Tires are older bias-ply 6.50x13 Firestones. We would suggest replacing them if intending extended driving.
PLEASE SEE VIDEO OF ENGINE STARTING, RUNNING AND TEST DRIVE.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a 190SL that has enjoyed ONE OWNER and excellent care since 1956 (68 years.)
WE HAPPILY SELL TO BUYERS WORLDWIDE AND CAN ASSIST WITH SHIPPING ANYWHERE.
