The Cosworth Vega was a project spearheaded by John Delorean together with the Chevrolet Engineering Laboratories and Cosworth Engineering Ltd's Keith Duckworth in England. The goal was to make a true high-performance Vega in limited numbers. This is car #1885 of only 2,061 made in 1975. This car is completely original throughout with just 18,183 miles showing from new. Featuring a 122 cubic inch (2 litre) dual overhead cam, sixteen-valve, 4 cylinder engine, with 3.16 x 3.50 bore and stroke. Producing 120 horsepower (compared to the stock Vega's 78 HP), fuel is fed to the engine through a Bendix electronic fuel injection system, with special pulse-air injection hardware. Breakerless, High-Energy electronic ignition, with onboard Motorola computer. Special components include: shot-peened connecting rods; forged and magna-fluxed crank shaft; 16-valve aluminum Cosworth cylinder head; deep-dished high-compression pistons; low-lift design performance cam shaft (for smooth idle); solid valve lifters and over-sized, oval-shaped exhaust ports connected to stainless steel tube exhaust headers and low-restriction pipes and mufflers unique to the Cosworths. Power is transfered to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission The engine was hand-built at Chevrolet's Tonawanda, New York plant, and shipped to their Lordstown, Ohio plant where assembly took place in September of 1975 in bodies off-line, away from the regular assembly line. This Vega was sold new by Honeycutt Chevrolet in Cabool, Missouri on October 8, 1975. Factory price was $5,916, (over twice the cost of a stock Vega at $2,786!) The original owner (a woman) drove it sparingly, and it was acquired by the current owner in September of 2007. Always garaged and maintained, it is a true time capsule. The original black paint shows beautifully today with a deep shine and has just been fully detailed. No dents or damage. Original decals and striping are excellent. Chrome and trim are bright and shiny with no pitting. All glass is excellent. Windows operate easily. Seals are good. Car is RUST FREE THROUGHOUT. Original Cosworth Vega wheels wrapped by newer radial tires. Original black vinyl interior appears as-new and confirms the low, original mileage. Carpets and headliner are excellent originals. Original padded sport steering wheel, also in excellent condition. All gauges work and register accurately. 8,000 RPM tachometer. AM radio. Factory heater and defroster. PLEASE SEE PHOTOS WHICH SHOW CURRENT CONDITION. Runs and drives as would be expected from a low-mileage, well-maintained original. Includes original factory build card (see photos) as well as original sales documents, warranty literature and manuals. WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BUYERS WORLDWIDE AND CAN ASSIST WITH SHIPPING ANYWHERE.
