1936 Packard 1404 Super 8 2/4 Passenger Coupe
SOLD - Off to Indiana
This Packard was sold new by McCormack Brothers Motor Car Co. in Birmingham, Alabama on February 28, 1936. It is a Model 1404 Super 8 riding on a 139 inch wheelbase. Few of these "3 window" coupes were made and even fewer survive today. This was the last model featuring Packard's big 384 cubic inch Super 8 engine, generating 150 horsepower. Fully restored to a very high level around 2005. Owned and maintained by Packard enthusiasts, with over $53,000 in upgrades and service since restoration, all verified by receipts. Finished in correct "Packard Cream" color with a deep shine. Excellent panel fit and wood framing. Front-opening doors hang solidly with no sag and close easily and securely. Chrome was re-plated and is bright throughout. Orange wire wheels are covered by ultra-rare Packard full wheel discs (including the dual side mounts.) $10,000 was spent just to restore the wheel discs. They give the car a sleek and sporty look befitting the coupe body style. Restored interior with wool upholstery in very good condition with no staining or tears. Rumble seat upholstered in tan leatherette, including folding arm rests. Excellent glass. All windows operate smoothly, including the rear window which rolls down for easy communication between the driver's compartment and rumble seat passengers. orrect wool carpeting. Dual locking golf club doors on each side of the body along with package compartment behind the front seat. Excellent woodgrained dashboard with bright chrome trim. Genuine wood window moldings. All gauges work with exception of the clock. Radio head is present in the dashboard, but no radio chassis and speaker. All lights work including the two Packard-branded fog lights on the front bumper. Turn signals added through the fog lights and tail lights. Trunk rack with accessory metal Packard trunk (restored at a cost of $8,000 and it's gorgeous!) Mechanically excellent. Rebuilt engine starts easily, runs smoothly and quietly. Plenty of power. 3-speed synchronized manual transmission shifts crisply. Adjustable "ride control" shock absorbers. 4-wheel vacuum-assisted mechanical brakes were just adjusted and stop this 5,000 pound car on a dime. Thermostatic radiator shutters work as they should. Undercarriage is clean and rust-free. Very good Bedford wide whitewall bias ply tires. Holds the road well. This Packard is a real pleasure to drive and attracts attention wherever it goes. WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BUYERS WORLDWIDE AND CAN ASSIST WITH SHIPPING ANYWHERE.
