CLICK ABOVE FOR VIDEO TOUR. Introduced in August of 1941, the 1942 Packards featured new "Clipper" styling on most 120 models, with the exception of the Convertible Coupe, which kept the traditional look refined in 1941, with the addition of horizontal dashboard instrumentation, headlights integrated into the front fenders and wide, sweeping chromed louvers below the headlights that brought increased cooling to the engine. Little did anyone know, four months after their introduction, America would be at war. When automobile production ended on February 7, 1942, of the 33,776 Packards built during the truncated model 1942 year, the120’s (in all body styles) accounted for 19,199 cars. Of those, this Convertible Coupe was #860 built. It was a style never to return after the war, and truly the end of an elegant era for Packard. Though the original delivery location is not stamped on the data plate, we are told this particular car spent its early years in New York. With rationing during the war limiting drivers to just 3 gallons of gasoline per week (as indicated by the "A" sticker on the windshield), it likely received little use during those years. Sometime after the war this Packard found its way to Colorado, where it was purchased by the current owner from Oregon in 2009. Current mileage of 64,910 showing is believed to be correct, but cannot be verified due to age. Along the way some years ago, this 120 received a fine quality restoration that included paint in correct "Cavalier Maroon" color, chrome plating, brown leather upholstery, maroon wool carpet, tan Haartz cloth convertible top, and wide whitewall bias-ply tires. The undercarriage is clean and rust-free. Optioned with working Packard heater. Radio and clock are present but not working at this time. The engine appears fresh and runs well, although it has not been driven much recently. 3-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly. Brakes stop well. Current owner replaced the convertible top pump which works well. We noted a few small areas of the lacquer paint on the driver's door and the rear deck are showing some signs of age, with a bit of spider-webbing. There is no paint chipping or failure, and the paint appears fine from several feet away and has a deep shine. However, we do want to mention it. Please see photos, below. Overall, this is a rare Packard that can be driven and enjoyed now, or taken to the next level as desired. No matter what, you'll likely be the only one on the road or at a show with one! WE HAPPILY SELL TO BUYERS WORLDWIDE AND CAN ASSIST WITH SHIPPING ANYWHERE.
