The Morris Minor was England's answer to the Volkswagen Beetle. Small, nimble and fun to drive, it found a great following not only in Great Britain, but around the world. Introduced in 1948 at the Earls Court Motor Show in London, variations of the Morris Minor were made until 1971 - a total of 1.6 million - testament to its popularity.
This 1959 Series III Minor 1000 (so named from its 948cc 4-cylinder engine) has a factory-stated top speed of 75 mph. It has lived on the west coast of the U.S. for many years. It received mechanical and cosmetic upgrades along the way and presents nicely today as the photos here show.
The straight rust-free body was refinished in a light periwinkle blue with a reflective shine. Excellent panel fit. All chrome and trim is bright and in excellent condition. All lights work, with flashing turn signal lights added through the existing fixtures. Newer tires wrap white painted wheels with periwinkle hubcaps. Draws attention and smiles wherever it goes.
The interior was also completely refinished with periwinkle and white fabric, also new carpeting and headliner. Modern gauges have been added to the original spartan instruments, Along with the original gas gauge there are now an auxiliary Bosch tachometer, VDO voltage gauge and temperature gauge. Dual glove boxes. Heater and defroster. Nextar NCD51 AM/FM/CD stereo with removable face. The trunk holds a spare tire and wheel and tools. Undercarriage is clean, solid and rust-free.
Mechanically excellent. Rebuilt engine starts easily, runs smoothly with excellent acceleration and power for its size. 4-speed manual transmission shifts crisply.
12 volt electrical system with modern alternator. The most recent service included service to the brakes, new front wheel bearings, new water pump, fuel filter and oil change. Nicely detailed engine bay.
